This prominent Oakland home needed a new, safer stairway for the owners’ aging parents. Improving on security, the new patio was separated from the front porch, which has a low wall to protect packages from view. Adding a stone water table at the lower wall and painted trim at the top, character and charm were added to this under-stylized Tudor. A trellis and lighting create shade and ambiance, while the planter surrounding the built-in benches enhances the privacy and usefulness of the renovated space. Large folding doors were added to the living room to create true indoor-outdoor living.
